Kaduna develops transport policy
Kaduna State has sought support of the Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF) for the development of a transport policy for the state. NIAF is funded by the UK Department of International Development (DFID) and implemented by Adam Smith International based in Abuja.
Speaking yesterday at the opening of the urban transport office at the premises of the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Commissioner, Bashir Aliyu Zangon-Aya, said the collaboration between the state government and NIAF was meant to address issues on growing congestion and promote the role of the private sector in helping to resolve the issues, especially by enhancing private investment in transport infrastructure and services. He said the policy would promote efficient use of resources within the transportation sector.
According to the NIAF project coordinator, Michael Mutter, the objective of the policy is to improve the state’s public transport system, create an appropriate regulatory framework to promote safe, high quality and environmentally sustainable passenger and freight transport operations.
